Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Controller to oversee financial operations for multiple real estate entities. This hands-on role manages daily accounting functions, ensures accurate financial reporting, and supports complex partnership tax structures. The ideal candidate brings strong GAAP knowledge, supervisory experience, and a deep understanding of real estate accounting.
Responsibilities
* Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger activity, accounts payable, cash management, intercompany transactions, and month-end close with full balance sheet reconciliations.
* Review and approve invoices, payments, wires, and journal entries while ensuring the accuracy of financial records across multiple real estate entities.
* Prepare, analyze, and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; maintain internal controls; ensure GAAP compliance; and support lender reporting, audits, and financial reviews.
* Lead partnership tax processes, prepare and review tax workpapers, coordinate multi-tier partnership returns, and track partner allocations, capital accounts, and distributions.
* Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax preparers.
* Support budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and enhancements to accounting procedures and systems.
* Supervise and mentor accounting staff while collaborating with development, asset management, acquisitions, and senior leadership teams.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
* CPA strongly preferred
* 7+ years of progressive accounting experience in real estate
* Strong knowledge of partnership taxation and multi-tier structures
* Experience with job costing, WIP, capitalization, depreciation, and real estate entity accounting
* Prior supervisory or Controller-track experience required
* Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, XLOOKUP, Power Query)
* Experience with ERP and real estate accounting systems
* Strong written, verbal, and collaborative communication abilities
* Solid GAAP knowledge
